Le choix de sa réalisatrice Greta Gerwig comme Présidente du Jury du Festival de Cannes 2024 est celui d une personnalité artistique aussi singulière qu audacieuse. Comédienne, scénariste, réalisatrice, issue du meilleur du cinéma indépendant, elle a réconcilié, si besoin était mais il y a souvent besoin ! critique et spectateurs avec cette comédie ambitieuse. Nul doute qu elle saura impulser un Palmarès qui sera à la hauteur de ce double respect, conjuguant distraction, réflexion et vision sociétale, à l image de nombre de productions cinématographiques actuelles.

Le cinéma est en effet depuis plusieurs mois fort d une grande vitalité, tant dans sa créativité et sa diversité que grâce à un retour massif de spectateurs en salles ; notre pays retrouvant notamment son haut niveau de fréquentation d avant Covid. Nous sommes d ail- leurs très fiers d avoir travaillé à faire renaître le plus ancien cinéma cannois, le Star, que nombre d entre vous connaissent bien et dont la réouverture est prévue dans dix-huit mois, renforçant ainsi encore l offre cannoise déjà enrichie en 2021 du cinéma multiplexe Cineum Cannes et de ses salles de haute technologie.

Pendant douze jours, le Festival de Cannes se fera témoin de son époque et de l état du 7e Art. L occasion non pas de voir tout en rose, mais d explorer la large palette colorimétrique de toutes nos émotions.

Screen is taking a much greater liberty, notably thanks to Barbie which last year adorned Cannes in this dazzling, optimistic hue.

With the selection of director Greta Gerwig as President of the Festival de Cannes 2024 Jury, we have chosen a unique and daring talent. Actor, screenwriter and director who has emerged from the best of independent cinema, she has bridged a gap, if ever there was one and so often there is between critics and audiences with this ambitious comedy. No doubt she'll be able to come up with an award list that lives up to such high qualities, being entertaining, thought-provoking and socially aware, as are many of today's productions.

The film industry has been booming for several months now, both in terms of creativity and diversity and, as a consequence of cinema-goers returning en masse to cinema theatres, France is achieving the same high attendance rates as it was pre-COVID. We are also extremely proud to have been involved in breathing new life into Cannes' oldest cinema, Le Star, which many of you know well and which is due to reopen in eighteen months. This will further strengthen Cannes' cinema portfolio, which was enhanced in 2021 by the opening of the state-of-the-art Cineum Cannes cinema multiplex.

For twelve days, the Festival de Cannes pays homage to our times and the 7th Art today. This is not simply an occasion to see everything in pink, but more a chance to explore the much broader colour palette of our emotions.
