The Festival de Cannes is pleased to announce that it will share its Opening event with cinema-goers again this year. Both Opening ceremony and film will be broadcast live in hundreds of French cinemas, an initiative of the Festival de Cannes, together with France Télévisions, FNCF (Fédération Nationale des Cinémas Français) and CNC (Centre National du Cinéma), with the friendly support of AFCAE (Association Française des Cinémas d’Art et d’Essai).
In 2023, more than 780 cinemas in 700 towns across France took part in this initiative.
This year, the Festival de Cannes, France Télévisions, Brut and FNCF are supporting the event again. All participating cinemas will broadcast live the Ceremony, hosted by French actress Camille Cottin, with a special guest of honor, American actress Meryl Streep. They will then show the opening film, Quentin Dupieux’s Le Deuxième Acte (The Second Act).
Every year, more and more cinemas are taking part in this initiative, designed to share with the French public the first evening of this great film celebration. The is an opportunity to reaffirm the value of cinemas, the importance of the shared experience, and to enable as many cinema enthusiasts as possible to take part in this event.
The participation of all these cinemas is invaluable, and we thank them for welcoming film-lovers to experience this exceptional evening together.
